writings to Monica (2009) - I dream of a world

Some possible contributions for your zine, based on the questions you sent to me:

a) Quotes about vision:
“If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favorable.”
                                Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Don’t look at the world always seeking its defects, let it marvel you, it’s so simple: ‘Le voyageur, attentif au monde extérieur, cherche la perfection dans les choses.

b) A person that is doing things that inspire me:
1.    Bea Rivero and some colleagues created Donaciones Unidas for fund raising for cooperation and development projects (http://www.donacionesunidas.org).
2.    I recently finished an internship at UN, so now I know many people doing an amazing job. I can write about that for your zine if you find it interesting.

c) I dream of a world where all humans finally realize and enforce the fact that we all are equal, have the same rights and necessities (food, love, health, safety and security; summarizing: well-being) and deserve equally to have these rights and necessities satisfied.

I dream of a united world where humans live without wars or fights, in complete harmony with themselves and with nature. We have got our back to the Earth and nature. I dream of a world where we reverse this situation. For example, I admire the love, respect, and attachment to Mother Earth of American First Nations culture. My dream is that we learn the lessons from the financial crisis and that we realize that we cannot maintain the present western way of life: precarious employment, unsustainable rate of consumption of goods and planet resources, endless credit and debts, etc. My dream is that we bury materialism, modify significantly our western patterns of life, step back and renounce to some superficial luxuries, go greener and force politics to make the global economy greener.

I dream of a world where people stand up and take the streets not only due to the death of a music star or because of soccer, but because of unfairness, poverty, war, dictatorships, corruption, etc.

I dream of a world where politics and life are not corrupted by money, where democracy is universal, where politics are committed to accomplish what they promise during campaigns (when reasonable), etc. (now, in 2021, I add that we must terminate tax havens and impose very high taxes to the super-rich see their wealth explained in this link and transnational corporations; when they tell you that there is no money for this or that, it’s a lie, there is plenty of money and wealth in the actual world for everything and everybody, it’s just that it is not well distributed, and it is simply a matter of political will to change that)

I dream of a world where everybody could travel, travel and travel (but sustainably, of course)! People who travel and witness the wonders and kindness of other countries, cultures and peoples can’t in any way hate them or support action against them.

I dream of a world where ignorance, illiteracy, poverty and hunger are eliminated. These are the truly root sources of all the world problems.
